The year 1996 saw the girls' programs at all schools improve their overall quality of athletes. They're now becoming a competing force in the field of girls' athletics.
The winter season saw Guyan Valley tromp Hamlin in the Hamlin Holiday Tournament, 71-48, as Matt Adkins put in 24 points and hit the boards for 19 rebounds. The next week, they came back and dominated the Bobcats in regular season, 79-56. Justin Blankenship and Matt Adkins put in 16 each, while Sam Barnett was getting nine for the Bobcats.
The Hamlin girls edged Harts, 50-44, with Angie Scites getting 12 points and 21 rebounds. Melissa Adkins and Ginny Boggess each had 14 points, while Kendra Mitchell was leading the Lady Lions with 16 points.

The year 1997 saw action from all four schools at some time during the year. Harts started off by beating Hamlin, 85-71, with David Frye getting 12, Napier 19 and Dalton 21. Hamlin got 12 from Beckett and 18 from Fulks.
Guyan Valley also downed the Bobcats, 58-51, with Roy putting in 20 points and Porter eight. Browning got 11 for Hamlin and Miller added 15.

GV also downed Hamlin jr. high with Shawn Smith getting eight points and Kris Johnson six. Hamlin was led by Walt McGrady with five and Cline Adkins wth four.
The Wildcat girls beat Hamlin also with Gosnay putting up 12, along with Pritchard. Burns added 10 for GV. May had five for Hamlin with Myers adding six and Puckett eight.

The 1998 year started with the Hamlin Bobcats knocking off the Harts Lions, 67-66, in overtime. With the score tied at 66-66, Josh Miller sank one of two free throws to give the Bobcats the win. The girls game was close, also, as Danielle Salmons led the Bobcats to victory with 15 points and Katherine Myers had 10. Amy Watts led Harts with 10 10 points.
Te Bobcats also won over the Wildcats, 66-57. In junior high action, GV dropped Hamlin girls, 40-12. Samantha Burns led GV with eight and K. Adkins and Megan Davis added seven each. Laura Madden led Hamlin with four points.
